Pandemic at the disco

Content warning: lots of viruses.

As well as Covid-19 going around my city, we also have colds, the regular flu, and now mumps. Turns out that if your last mumps vaccine was more than 10 years ago, you need another one. I hate vaccines.

Free vaccines are offered today from 11 am to 2 pm, but when I went to get mine, the queue stretched through the entire building. I went to the toilet for 15 minutes and came back and compared how the line had moved in that time, and it was clear it was going to take at least an hour and a half to reach the end. I didn't have an hour and a half. So yay no shoulder pain, but boo I could catch a horrible disease.

This evening I started making a bot that monitors the RNZ Covid-19 feed for things that look important and posts them to Discord.

I had assumed that one of my lecturers would be completely useless at recording his lectures, but apparently I was wrong — I checked online and it seems to be fine. The government has just banned meetings of more than 100 people, and there are about 115 in my class, so it'll definitely be interesting to see if the university decides to cancel all classes now... 0_0 apparently this ban does not apply to schools, universities, work, or public transport. Which is a bit... hmm.

I was questioning the effectiveness of measures like these — surely it's only a matter of time before everyone who could possibly get the virus gets the virus? Of course, it will be impossible to contain completely. However I now realise that the aim is to slow it down to avoid overwhelming the healthcare systems with too many patients, as well as buy time until a vaccine can be produced.

Mumble is cute tech.

The picture of the day is 6502 internals from one of my classes.
